001-Broadwing-WRBen Allen, film score composer, song writer, vocalist, musician, producer, editor, recorder, illustrator and video editor. The eclectic and sublimely talented artist Ben Allen, whom employs the pseudonym Broadwing, has succeeded to the NTH. There is no other word more apt.

2012 saw Allen take out first place of the coveted 2012 APRA Tropscore competition on his first attempt. Part of the popular Tropfest short film festival, the APRA Tropscore competition is about finding the best short film soundtrack. Allen’s film score was judged the best for 2012, beating 900 entries across 23 countries. Allen stepped up to perform his winning and decidedly haunting piece in front of a massive crowd of 90,000 as part of Tropfest at Sydney’s Domain.

2012 also saw Allen, invited as one of only eight artists to attend the Triple J APRA Song Summit. Allen participated in a roundtable discussion with influential music industry heavyweights, such as Gotye and Adalita Srsen.

Allen released his debut EP in 2014, Broadwing Pinhole Camera, a whole three years in the making. Pinhole Camera songs feature an amalgamation of organic and software instrumentation. Described as distinctive, intricate and textured. Dom Alessio, host of Home and Hosed described Pinhole Camera ‘as another gorgeous Broadwing offering that pulls at the heart strings’. Allen has also deservedly drawn comparison to an early Gotye.

Allen as Broadwing has organically been building support from a number of institutions, most notably and passionately, Triple J, as well as a solid fan base in the Top End which continues to grow.

And if life couldn’t get any better, 2014 saw Allen take out Australia’s Audio Technology Magazine ‘Biggest Remix Comp in the World’, with spoils of over $13,000 in studio gear. WILD.

Broadwing has taken flight.
