Anna | Back On Board!

KRA is very excited to announce Anna Weeks is back on board! Anna Weekes has an extensive and impressive Community Arts and Community Development background. Working both in Australia and internationally on community directed arts projects for social justice, Anna has previously worked in Cambodia for eighteen months with a local arts and social wellbeing NGO to develop theatre to promote awareness and discussions on prevailing issues with local people. Anna has also spent eighteen months in Vanuatu on a remote island working with a group of women to nurture and support their ideas on women’s development, achieving an EU funded project for a cultural festival and the construction of a Women’s resource centre. Since returning from overseas Anna has continued working in the field of CACD development working with Darwin Community Arts on Theatre for empowerment projects in Darwin and in remote aboriginal communities; ‘My Sisters Kitchen’ facilitating food and stories with people of refugee background. Anna has successfully run the Arts in the Long Grass program for the past three years which featured the ‘10 Swags’ project and more recently ‘a House of Thongs’. Both projects entwined stories through public interactive art, broadening understanding and awareness in the community around the complexities of homelessness. Anna coordinated the Larrakia Nation Arts Centre for three years, to deliver arts and cultural activities with Larrakia, other indigenous people living in Darwin and the homeless community. The arts centre focuses on the re-invigoration of past cultural traditions informing current cultural practice and the sharing of this with the Darwin community. Anna has previously worked with KRA delivering community arts programs and is back to coordinate the Katherine Arts Muster. THE KATHERINE ARTS MUSTER The Katherine Arts Muster is a community arts program made up of six individual projects. The Muster is an accessible and engaging program involving the ‘movement’ and ‘connection’ of artists within the Katherine region and throughout Australia. Local indigenous and non-indigenous artists, community members, remote indigenous artists and national artists will share their stories, exchange and collaborate. The grassroots community partnerships developed through this program will make it viable and sustainable, invigorating the artistic practice of the Katherine Region. The communities involved are Lajamanu, Ngukurr and Beswick. Watch this...
