“Salvage Katherine” 20th-22nd of June 2014

Great turn out at the Tip Off Competition.

Great turn out at the Tip Off Sculpture Competition 2013.

“Salvage Katherine” Junk Festival

Katherine region’s very own recycled arts festival will be launched in 2014 and we want you to be involved. After last year’s hugely successful Tip Off Junk Sculpture Competition, Katherine Regional Arts is expanding our scope to find uses for the wonderful stuff others might call ‘rubbish’. The festival has a strong emphasis on valuing our environment by being aware of the waste that we create and finding ways to reuse some of the stuff that ends up in land fill each year.

You can get involved!

Salvage Junk Sculpture Competition: On June 20th there will be a junk sculpture competition judged at the Katherine Tip Shop. Everyone is welcome to get involved… create something huge or something small, something that moves or something stationary, something abstract or something that is meant to look like something else. You can create something as a group, family, individual.

You can clean up on great cash and other prizes, with the following categories.

Categories are:

  • Open
  • School group
  • Youth 13-18
  • Kids 0-12
  • Rubbish Musical Instrument

Wearable Rubbish Art Fashion Parade and Glamour Ball: Your chance to create the gown or dinner jacket using anything found, scrounged, tossed or lost, of your dreams. Costumes will have their moment on the catwalk, on the night of Saturday June 21st, leading into the Trash Glamour Ball.

Junk Orchestra: There will be a visiting junk orchestra offering workshops and performances to Katherine community. Do you want to be part of the First Katherine Junk percussion group?

We would love everyone in the region to get involved, find creative ways to talk about this important issue and come together as a community to celebrate recycling. Please contact KRA for further information, to volunteer, to donate by calling 9871 0928 or emailing eo@kathregionarts.org.au
